The topic-specific difference was especially clear when female journalists wrote articles in left-oriented newspapers (e.g., Politiken). The topic with a high probability of appearing in articles written by female journalists and in left-oriented newspapers included words related to “sharing” and “time”, but also words such as “economy”, “business” and “work”. Our topic model only divided the semantic space in half, finding the two most distinct sets of words that co-occur in news articles.

  • In the study of crisis informatics, social media can function as part of the toolset used in crisis preparation and emergency preparedness17; and for response and communication during the event18,19,20.
  • This would be especially the case if the results of Sereno et al. reflected the use of attention to help choose the correct phonological form32 rather than being a more direct measure of phonological processing.
  • Because this process of prediction is deterministic, it is also a faster and less biased than manually annotating histologic features, and less expensive and less error-prone than immunostaining (Fig. 4).
  • Meanings or senses of a word are annotated in English words or phrases, and arrows indicate the direction of semantic change from a source meaning toward a target meaning.

Perplexity focuses on the prediction ability of the LDA model for new documents, which often leads to larger topic quantity. Meanwhile, KL divergence pays attention to the difference and stability among topics so that the optimal topic quantity is fewer. Perplexity-AverKL achieves appropriate topic quantity by combining the advantages of Perplexity and KL divergence. However, although the number of functional requirements texts is not large in this work, different phenomena regarding three different indicators may be presented since the topics from ILDA may mirror the distribution of words rather than the concept about “topic” in our daily conversation. Therefore, it is necessary to further evaluate the performance of the ILDA model with more topic quantity, which is shown in Fig.

Before testing the change rates of al 6,224 meanings of our data, we classified the original 104 core concept meanings. The concept list targets culture terms, including concepts that are considered to have been in daily use in the Eurasian context since the Chalcolithic period. For our classification of concepts into semantic subgroups, we decided to reuse the classification of the original publication of the data (Carling, 2019).

As a previous study suggested, the CS-C should be at least 0.25 and is preferable than 0.5 (Cheung et al., 2021). Large Language Models (LLMs; also called Large Pre-Trained Models or Foundation Models1) are deep neural networks with billions or trillions of parameters that are trained on massive natural language corpora. Some examples include the ability to pass examinations required for advanced degrees, such as those in law2, business3, and medicine4.

Synthetic data can help to anonymize individuals while preserving the distributional nature of the data which could allow for easier sharing. Further, synthetic data can help to increase the number of samples in a dataset and increase the performance of models. We used the following methods with the tabular real MOX2-5 activity data to generate synthetic data efficiently. We found no public study which discussed the relationships between microstate differences and molecular changes in SCZ. Microstate analysis mainly focuses on the macro level of brain activity, while molecular changes occur at the micro level, lacking direct connection bridges. Nevertheless, we can still speculate that there may be a correlation between molecular changes and disrupted microstate characteristics.

“Automatically identifying changes in the semantic orientation of words,” in Proceedings of the Seventh International Conference on Language Resources and Evaluation (LREC’10) (Malta). All authors participated in the development of methodology, data interpretation, contributed to the revision, and writing of the manuscript. ChatGPT App The second problem we consider goes beyond the properties of source senses and explores shared regularity in the historical mappings between source meaning and target meaning. Here we ask whether given a source meaning si, one can automatically infer the target meaning sj as attested in the historical change si → sj.

GPT-4-turbo and Claude-3-Opus showed similar bimodal peaks as humans, but there were still a considerable number of phrases that were judged as ambiguous with a rating around 2 (makes some sense). See supplementary materials for scatterplots comparing human ratings of each item to the ratings of LLMs. The idea behind this app is that concepts in embedding models naturally form some sort of network structure. In the app you can build concept graphs based on a set of seed words you specify and two levels of free association. Word embeddings are typically trained on large corpora so that they can capture general word-to-word relations in human language. This is useful, because one can infuse general knowledge about language into models for specific applications.

The opposite case is true if the combination of meanings of each unit could not unpack the meaning of the construction. In relation to the NP de VP construction at issue, this construction is of a high degree of compositionality. For instance, if the NP slot is confined to lexical items denoting “regulations”, then the meanings of lexical items in the VP slot are predictable and so is the typical meaning of the NP de VP construction.

For this reason, we selected a few anatomically well-separated ROIs based on measures of neural activation (see below), which is one of the more common approaches37,76. The advantage of our data-driven method is that it can unveil ROIs when there is little prior information on which ones to choose. However, the downside is that our method could be blind to ROIs that play a causal role in neural dynamics but that are downregulated for the considered subject task37. Dell’Acqua et al. used a picture-word interference task to examine semantic processing where pictures were presented at the same time as fully visible distractor words that were either categorically related (e.g., spoon-fork) or unrelated. Their results showed there were very early effects of the distractor words, with a semantic component in their ERPs estimated to occur only 106 ms after stimulus presentation. They suggested that this was likely to have occurred because of fast access to semantics from the pictures, which then affected the words’ orthography via feedback.

In this sense, the discussion focuses on specific aspects of each instrument pointed out by team members, allowing researchers to identify and address possible design errors quickly. After obtaining comments from invited users, the coordination staff can start discussing them (via replies to the original comment) through an administrative web interface. Figure 7 presents the commenting interface where users can provide feedback about the instruments and the questions. First, an automatic rule-based validation procedure searches for inconsistencies through each field in all instruments. Rules must be pre-defined in the form of metadata and represent the format or range of values expected for a given field. The procedure runs several times a day, at the same time, to check for new issues and verify the resolution of previously identified ones.

We validate ERnet using data obtained by various ER-imaging methods from different cell types as well as ground truth images of synthetic ER structures. ERnet can be deployed in an automatic high-throughput and unbiased fashion and identifies subtle changes in ER phenotypes that may inform on disease progression and response to therapy. To test the accuracy of the trained models further, a comparison was made between quantified model predictions and a second unseen test set of immunostained images that have been binarized. Quantification of the tissue area occupied by normal acinar cell and transformed pancreatic epithelial cells was achieved by immunostaining for amylase and pan-keratin, respectively, with DAPI staining of nuclei used to detect all cellular regions.

The text data is segmented as natural sentences, which are labeled into functional domain, behavioral domain and structural domain according to the specific sentence semantics. Then, Chinese text normalization tool provided by iFLYTEK open platform45,46,47 is utilized to optimize the colloquial text data in order to ensure the classifier performance. Non-fluent factors such as word repetition and semantic redundancy in the colloquial text data are removed, while the linguistic expression style of the colloquial text data is corrected to make it more similar to formal written language. The obtained text data is translated into English due to the Chinese experimental environment.

The meaning relations were coded between the concept meaning (e.g., APPLE, WOLF, GOLD) and each polysemous meaning for every lexeme individually (defined by their Lexeme ID) (Supplementary Table S1). In cases where the meaning was completely changed, we used the dominant concept meaning of the etymon as the basis for contrast (see above under Section 2.3.1.). In this work, we present a hierarchical framework to learn semantic-aware locomotion skills for off-road locomotion.

We introduce a framework capturing action-concept markers automatically in natural speech. Patients from both subgroups and controls retold an action-laden and a non-action-laden text (AT, nAT). In each retelling, we weighed action and non-action concepts through our automated Proximity-to-Reference-Semantic-Field (P-RSF) metric, for analysis via ANCOVAs (controlling for cognitive dysfunction) and support vector machines. Direct discrimination between patient subgroups was not systematic, but it yielded best outcomes via AT scores.

Female journalists contributed about 53% of the available articles in the parental leave reform data set, but only 30% in the “3-day dataset”. For political orientation, we categorized five newspapers (Berlingske, B.T., Børsen, Jyllands-Posten, and Weekendavisen) as having a political orientation to the right and three as having a political orientation to the left (Politiken, ChatGPT Ekstra Bladet, and Information). The proportion of articles published in right-oriented newspapers was almost identical for the parental leave reform data (56.49%) and the “3-day dataset” (56.73%). You can foun additiona information about ai customer service and artificial intelligence and NLP. We suggest that the issue of parental leave reform is of greater relative focus for female journalists and seems independent of the political orientation of the newspapers.

One hypothesis assumes that the VP in the NP de VP construction has been nominalized (cf. Lu, 1985; Chen, 1987; Ye, 2020 for nominalization from the word rank; and Guo, 2000; Xiong, 2001, 2006; Shi, 2008; Lu abd Pan, 2013 for nominalization from the phrase rank). The argument of nominalization of the VP is in accordance with the overall grammatical class of the construction which is universally accepted as a nominal phrase; it also sufficiently explains the linguistic phenomenon that the VP is grammatically pre-modified by the possessive particle de. This leads to the other theoretical hypothesis that word classes of the VP in the NP de VP construction are still verbs (cf. Zhu et al., 1961; Zhu, 1982; Wu, 2006). Verbs pre-modified by adverbials are intrinsic natures in the language system, which sufficiently expounds the grammaticality of the expression mubiao de chichi bu shixian ‘delayed realization of target’. Both arguments are to some extent reasonable in that the former complies with the category agreement between the nominal nature of the VP and that of the construction, and the latter complies with the simplicity of language systems (Jin, 2019). The VP in the NP de VP construction is simply regarded as verbs in this research in that they are in line with the tagging system of the BCC corpus.

Trial length L is equal to 1000 data samples per trial of which we generated 100 trials. Figure 3 illustrates our PDC estimates using the multi-trial general linear Kalman filter for parameter estimation. The figure features 3 × 3 time-frequency windows each of which displays information flow between two variables. This can, for example, be seen in window (b), where a flow of information from variable 2 to 1 appears after passing half the time window (variable c12(n) varies with time). These simulations confirmed the validity of our method in capturing the varying nature of the connectivity pattern for the next stage of our analysis. 2 also shows the respective time course for each of these ROIs which were obtained by taking the dipole with the highest power for each region.

Elements in different slots of the NP de VP construction were examined by previous research, for example, lexical items in the VP slot, the semantic relationship of lexical items between the NP slot and the VP slot, and meaning patterns of both the VP slot and the NP slot of the construction. When considering the entirety of Asian ‘language and linguistics’ research, the most prolific nations were China, Iran, Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and South Korea. Notably, while Japanese and Hong Kong research had consistently led the field throughout the designated time period, Chinese research has been a rising star in the field since 2010. In addition, China, Hong Kong, and Israel were the most active in publishing articles in international journals, whereas Indonesia, Iran, and Malaysia concentrated on publishing articles in regional journals. To publish these articles, either sole authorship or the collaborations of small groups still dominated Asian ‘language and linguistics’ research.

(b) Correlations were made by comparing the percent of area coverage for each stain mask. The high Spearman correlations illustrate the models’ ability to replicate straining using only H&E images. The early stages of pancreatic cancer evolution are well described in the mouse models8,9. The normal pancreas consists predominantly of acinar and ductal epithelial cells forming the exocrine compartment, along with islet cells of the endocrine compartment, vasculature and the varied fibroblasts of the stromal compartment. The earliest stages of oncogene-induced pre-cancer evolution are marked by an expansion of ductal cells or by the conversion of the acinar cells to a ductal phenotype in an adaptive process known as acinar-to ductal metaplasia (ADM)13.

Obviously, whether enterprises can meet the implicit requirements becomes an important consideration for improving product quality and retaining customers. Xi et al.16 used the triangular fuzzy sets to realize fuzzy semantic quantization of customers and constructed the implicit requirements classification model based on self-organizing mapping neural network. Onyeka et al.17 developed a software tool called COTIR that integrates commonsense knowledge, ontology knowledge and text mining for implicit semantics analysis requirements identification. As a matter of fact, customer requirements can be divided into functional, behavioral and structural requirements. Function-Behavior-Structure design process model is a general design solution framework, which assists designers to solve the design task by describing the relationship among product function, behavior and structure18. The cognition of designers still follows the mapping process corresponding to the functional domain, behavioral domain and structural domain.
